David Harding is a Principal and Lead Project Engineer at Cunliffe & Associates, providing senior leadership in the delivery and construction administration of structural engineering services across all project phases. He oversees construction-phase services, ensuring continuity from preliminary planning and design coordination through to project completion. David works closely with clients, architects, consultants, and contractors to deliver practical, efficient, and code-compliant structural solutions.
David specializes in construction-phase services and site coordination, with extensive experience overseeing quality control of structural elements, reviewing shop drawings, developing value engineering solutions, and resolving complex on-site issues. He provides practical guidance to clients and contractors, mentors junior site reviewers, and helps ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), and applicable CSA standards.
As a department lead, David has managed projects ranging from mechanical unit installations and tenant fit-ups to major renovations, demolition support, security upgrades, and new industrial developments. He is particularly experienced in projects within existing and occupied facilities, including schools, government buildings, and institutional environments, where careful phasing, coordination, and minimizing disruption are critical.
In addition to his construction-phase expertise, David has extensive experience conducting preliminary investigations of existing structures, feasibility studies, and building condition assessments. He has completed numerous large-scale structural condition reports and is highly regarded for his ability to develop practical, cost-effective solutions that align with project objectives and site constraints.
David has been a key on-site representative for Cunliffe & Associates since 1999 and became a principal in 2014. His hands-on approach, technical expertise, and commitment to project success continue to make him an integral part of the firm’s leadership and project delivery team.
