Rick Cunliffe, M. Eng., P. Eng.- Principal
Since the inception of Cunliffe and Associates in 1989, Rick has been involved in consulting engineering work. He leads of a dedicated team of structural engineers, designers and technologists. Rick appreciates the needs of clients and seeks to deliver structural systems which meet the Architectural intent and systems requirements. His philosophy is that the good of the project outweighs that of individual disciplines. This makes Rick a valuable design team member and respected leader.

Rick graduated from the engineering program at Carleton University with high distinction in 1985 and followed up with a Master of Engineering degree in 1988. Rick began his career in a consulting engineering office in 1987 and began the integration of real construction and engineering experience with the theory of academia. These tools have provided a greater design freedom to explore innovative solutions to structural engineering challenges.

Rick was a Sessional Lecturer at Carleton University involved with Architecture courses in structural analysis and design between 1989 and 1997. Rick is interested in Heritage Conservation and has worked with the Heritage Conservation (Program) Directorate for Parks Canada.

David Harding, B.Eng., C.E.T. - Senior Inspector
David Harding has been the site presence for Cunliffe & Associates since his 1999 graduation with honours from Algonquin College in Civil Engineering Technology. He continued his education while working full time, and in 2007 he completed his Bachelor of Engineering at Carleton University and is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. While he continues to provide the vital construction co-ordination & consultation services for many of the company's projects, over time he has continued to add to his responsibilities, and in 2014 he became a partner.

Dave's primary duty is to oversee the construction phase services for projects which include site reviews, shop drawing and testing report reviews, quality control, co-ordination with design team, meeting with and advising clients on practical, efficient site solutions, engineering design and analysis, supervising junior site reviewers, and co-ordination with contractors and other construction personnel to ensure a high level of construction standards are met. He also has experience conducting site investigation into matters involving existing structures and the preparation of building condition assessment reports.

Ronald Waghorn, CAD Manager
Ron has been with Cunliffe & Associates since inception in 1989. He received a diploma in Architectural Technology from Algonquin College in 1984. Ron oversees the drafting department, and structural drawings produced under his supervision are accurate, well detailed and highly regarded by the industry.

Revit is an important structural tool that allows full appreciation of structural configuration and complex member interconnectivity. The clear 3D view aids our structural analysis and design, permits better understanding by the outside design team and clearly indicates the tendering and construction phases of projects.

Paulís responsibilities include architectural coordination, providing support for the design engineers, supervising junior draftsmen, shop drawing review, site review, construction coordination, and IT support within the office.

Vincent Leung, M. Sc., P. Eng. - Earthquake Design Specialist
Vincent has specialized as a seismic engineer with Cunliffe & Associates since 1997. Vincent has in-depth experience in both structural and geotechnical engineering, which is advantageous to our understanding of the soil and structure interaction. He has the experience and knowledge to perform complex analysis using software such as CSI ETABS and SAFE and make these effective tools in the understanding of seismic behaviour.

The heights of buildings in the city have increased to the point where the dynamic response to wind loading is becoming an important design consideration. Vincent understanding of building dynamics has also provided leadership to our team in wind engineering.

Vincent has been a Professional Engineer in Ontario since 1985 and gained experience in geotechnical engineering, industrial engineering and structural guidance for a municipality before joining our firm. Vincent has an undergraduate Civil Engineering degree from California State University, and a M.Sc. from San Jose State University in 1979.
